Our Princess in Prince George

P1220723

We were on our way with the first blush of sunrise on our mountains…

P1220724

The roads were not as clear as we’d hoped (considering our last eventful drive to Prince George two years back), and were in fact clear ice for whole stretches of shady highway….

But traction was good nonetheless.  At least we were not riding bikes like this brave couple!P1220731

And the views were fabulous!

Eight hours later, there was Prince George.

P1220748

But better yet, there was the little princess!

Now five months old, this is only the second time we’ve seen her but she seemed glad to make our acquaintance and we had a delightful visit!

And then home again, home again,  through wintery wasteland…but this time on clear roads…P1220826P1220828P1220840

We’re grateful for family a little nearer than they used to be, and for safe travels!

In the Neighborhood…

safe to cross

The elk seem quite at home in our neighborhood these days.  I was sitting on the couch minding my own business the other morning when up popped a head at the window—it was a young one, just curious I suppose.

Another day I watched as this gentleman waited to cross the road safely…

The herd likes to hang out in the meadow just across the street behind our house.  So I hung out watching them one crisp and quiet morning…

Peaceful and uneventful.

There are no more flowers about,  but this one has a special beauty even after the bloom—isn’t this true of some people you know too?

Well, evening has fallen and I best be getting supper on the table. That’s it for this week!

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Getting ready…

We got a foreshadowing of winter this week, with mostly freezing temperatures and a thin blanket of snow that has only today melted completely.  So the snow tires are now on the van.  And our tandem rides are numbered, if not done for the season.

Even with thick lobster gloves (two fingers and a thumb) and all sorts of extra layers it’s still cold for riding!IMG_20161006_195910961

P1220618 These grasses look so much more graceful with a snowy backdrop…

And every last bit of color shines!

But alas the tall trio of aspens I’ve been watching out the window are stark naked now:

We celebrated a quiet thanksgiving this week and are grateful for our cozy home-- among multitudinous other greater blessings—God’s nearness, God’s forgiveness, and the hope that knowing Him brings to every day no matter the season!

First dusting…

P1220570

On a misty moisty Monday morning before I’d left the cozy covers of my bed
there was a distinct clippity clop just outside the window-- hooves on cobbled rock.
I didn’t get to the window quick enough; the fugitive elk was gone.  But perhaps he was just a decoy, for heading into the kitchen to peer out the front window I discovered visitors at my doorstep.

3Elk at window

Do you see him here?  A pair of elk had found my recovering petunias tucked up against the house and were having a gourmet breakfast at my door—a mother and her yearling.  The youngster caught sight of me first. His mother had her head in the pot, polishing off the straggles.  But the silly flash spooked her on the second go and she jumped backward, upsetting the pot, upsetting the bikes and steering her charge to safety at the perimeter of our yard…

Elk have been hereElk have been here too So that’s that for flowers—for real this time.

But there is still the beauty of the grasses…IMG_20161004_163354474_HDR

And though I don’t have my own pumpkin patch, I did buy a little pumpkin to practice on…

IMG_20161001_114823415 Oops…a bit of a squash! ha.

But the news of the week is that we’ve had our first dusting of snow, harbinger of skiing days to come!
