Our Wintry World

When in snow country do as the locals do...
Our favorite pastime this month has been cross-country skiing. We are having a lovely respite of above-freezing days which makes it a whole lot less stressful to pause for picture-taking without feeling you will freeze to death and without having your glasses fog up leaving you in a blinding cloud...

This is the local terrain we frequent...

For a change of scene we sometimes head down the road to Banff to have a look around. How different it all looks in winter...

Snow-sculpting and ice-sculpting are popular pastimes here...

Back at home the warmer weather lured me out for a walk, which has become rare for me these days. It was delightful ( :

Finding myself envious of your wintry world. Further away from the coast, this is the scene in Maine, but here we get snow and then can't seem to hang onto it for very long. After our last big dump, I did manage to get the snow shoes out and to locate the tiny ones for the grand boy and we trekked around my oldest son's home with the boy in tow. He was not thrilled because it's a challenge to remember to keep your feet far enough apart, so there were some spills, but it was glorious to have enough snow that we actually NEEDED snow shoes.

And now we are in the season of mud and dirty remnants of snow. Our St. Bernard likes to roll in snow whenever he can find it, but even he is shunning what's left.

So wonderful that you live in such a beautiful part of the world and are diligent with your camera so that we can enjoy it, too!

Ha! Yesterday had a little trek with my dear youngest daughter visiting for two days--we should have donned the snow shoes, but didn't! Wonderful anyway. The snow here is so light that the air's been filled with sparkles all morning as it flits about.
I love that you have a St.Bernard! (I always thought that would be the coolest thing...) and it is a cause for great gratitude I suppose that he elects not to roll in the mud! Soon there will be crocuses for you I trust? Enjoy.
We have just had the most significant dump of snow of the entire season. It will be awhile before we're seeing anything green. Thx for pausing here. ( :

Wow! What amazing and beautiful scenery where you are! Even though we spent the first 10 years of our married life in Minnesota, it still can't compare with the amount of snow and cold in your region. I am in awe of the incredible vastness of nature that our God has created! Thank you for sharing. --Blessings to you!

So glad you stopped by Bettie! I have found it a challenge to keep posting pics since winter set in... So much white and so cold... One day spring will come...
